Catching “White Nights” In The North

Environs of the deserted village Khibiny offer unparalleled landscapes with picturesque lakes and scenic mountains. Its location also gives a prefect possibility to contemplate the “midnight sun.”

Gulls send away a bald eagle.

A dried out lake.

Thunderstorm is about to start at one of the lakes.

Imandra lake is one of the beautiful lakes of the Russian North.

The pictures are taken in the early August but the “white nights” effect is present.

The sun sets, but one can easily read a book all night.

The sunset is fantastic.

The only way to reach the abandoned village are your feet or own wheels. Preferably, jeep wheels as there is almost no transport connection.

The village is situated not far from the lake above and was founded in 1900.

In 1980-ies it numbered several thousands of citizens. At present about 70 people live here.

Once large settlement now has no school and aid station.

However, the store, which works 2 hours a day, and the library survived.

The store with half-empty shelves inside.

The depopulated village has got one place of interest – a deserted school.
